Chris Weitz Interview - VERY insightful...

*Even Weitz was surprised with how quickly Phil Tippet's company turned around the Jacob wolf shot at the end of the first teaser trailer. The shot has gone through numerous iterations and is much more photorealistic than that version.

*He'll be submitting a director's cut of the film to Summit within the next two weeks.

*Alexandre Desplat is currently working on the movie's score. It may include hints at Carter Burwell's original "Twilight" theme, but will sound different.

*Thom Yorke and Kings of Leon are interested in contributing to the film's soundtrack.

*A couple of new scenes from the film will be shown during the "New Moon" Comic-Con panel on Thursday, July 23.

*The movie within a movie, "Facepunch," will only be heard -- not seen.

*Shooting in Italy with all of the fans that trekked across Europe to see the production was like Beatlemania.

*His vision of the Volturi is very much like the book and unlike a number of fan inspirations that have hit the web. He also sees them as having gone slightly insane after living for 2,000 years.

*He's met with David Slade and expects the filmmaker's vision for "Eclipse" to be different than what he's doing with "New Moon," but with the same actors and visual effects team.
*He's flattered that fans want him to direct "Breaking Dawn" without seeing "New Moon," but thinks the fans will want Slade to do it by the time "Eclipse" comes out.

*Weitz needs to turn the film in by Oct. 30 to strike prints or if not, they are in "big trouble" to make the release date.

This I found most interesting:

Q: Just to follow that up, can you tell us how far along you are to completion right now?

I am about two weeks away from showing the director's cut to the studio. I've got some wolves with fur. Some wolves are still invisible basically and some wolves are like -- you've all probably seen the claymation versions. We are still in the light RD phases of what Edward looks like when he's hit -- what the vampires look like when he's hit with light and the diamond effect. Also, the kind of hallucinatory effect Bella has when she hears Edward's voice and she imagines him there. And then we are Alexandre Desplat has just started working on his music for the film. And we are just starting to put together what acts will be on the soundtrack, so it's kind of like keeping ten plates spinning at once, but it's all good because we've got Alexander Desplat who I think is one of the greatest film composers living and because of the kind of the strength of the franchise that I inherited, a lot of bands are really interested in working on the soundtrack and we got visual effects people. And that just leaves me hopefully not dropping the ball in terms of editing together the story.

Q: Sounds like a lot.

It is a lot, and with Comic-Con on the 24th were we are going to show a couple of scenes to whoever can get in that auditorium. And yeah, it's a lot to be getting on with, but it's fun at the same time.

Q: Really quickly on the music. The first movie probably made Paramore as a band. Were you surprised by the number of acts wanting to be on the sequel and have you had to turn anybody down?

Well, fortunately I'm not at the stage where I have to turn anybody down yet, because everything is still kind of up in the air, but I am surprised by some of the bands that have said they are interested. It's kind of great. The criteria will still be what's right for the movie at that given moment, but y'know, Thom Yorke is interested. We might, if we're very lucky, get Kings of Leon to do something. So, it's exciting to have access to this kind of talent.

Q: What was your favorite scene to shoot?

There were a lot of fun scenes to film frankly. I really did enjoy the sequence in the Volturi headquarters, although it's a tremendous logistical headache. In a way, it's the scenes that you dread the most because they are so time consuming and you have to get it just right which is like the stuff in the Volturi headquarters, that has to be my favorite sequence because it is kind of the high point of the movie when Bella goes to try and stop Edward from killing himself. We had 1,000 extras in this medieval town square in this little town in Tuscany in the most beautiful country on earth and it's just an extraordinary opportunity to work there. It was also kind of surreal, because every 'Twilight' fan could make it from all over continental Europe and even further and had gotten by hook or by crook to Montepulciano, [Italy] and booked a hotel room. Sometimes in the very hotel room in which the cast and crew were staying. So, there was this weird Beatlemania thing sort of going on in this very small, beautiful hill town. So, for five days it was this bizarre festival atmosphere. And it really wasn't bothersome at all. It was incredible gratifying that all these people would applaud after every take whether or not we'd screwed it up. They had no idea because they weren't close enough to hear. If you looked down any alley in which the camera wasn't pointing you'd see hundreds of these young girls who had come to touch a piece of what they really loved.

Q: Can you talk about what it was like to work with the cast after they'd already played these parts before?

Well I always go into any movie that a competent actor is going to know about as much or more about what their character is about than I will even if it isn't a franchise, because that's their job. But that's especially the case when they have already played these characters falling in love. They have kind of lived with the characters and the franchise for quite awhile. I'm mean you'd have to ask the actors if what I say is true, but my first job is to talk to them and listen to them about what they thought about the script and what they thought their characters would be up to. And to kind of work along with them. Obviously, it was going to be a different experience for them. It was going to be a different kind of movie, because in a way I'm a lot more old fashioned than Catherine Hardwicke in terms of my film tastes and in terms of the way the film was going to turn out. So, it was sort of just a balancing act between respecting everything they brought to the table and the characters and what they did and what I thought I could bring. Also, it was kind of great to be with Taylor as he went from a character that had three small scenes in the first movie and only worked three days on the first movie or something to one of the dominant characters in the movie. That was a really fun process because he's a really great guy. Actually, all of the kids as I like to call them because I'm 39 and that sort of makes me twice their age were fun to work with and clever and smart and thoughtful about it.

Q: Can you tell us about the proposal scene at the end of the book? Fans are worried that it's either been altered or cut out of the film. Can you address those concerns?

They haven't been cut out. I can tell you that much. It's not going to hit them the exact way they think it's going to, but I will say -- how can I put it? It's going to be quite special. I could have saved all of my gusto for that moment. I don't think it will disappoint.

Apparently, (yet to be officially confirmed but the amount of coverage makes me think it's likely true) this dude has been cast as Riley. His name is Xavier Samuel and is is an Aussie... that's all. His bio is on IMDB but we all kno whow "reliable" that website can be *sigh*

I can't wait - a month from now I will be wrapped up in Eclipse Filming and Set-Stalking and Cast Sightings and Blogging and Giggling and .....

right now - nothing... there is nothing interesting going on... I mean, Remember Me is still filming, as is The Runaways... and everyone is doing their thing...

Location Scouts are out and About already here in Vancouver as there are only a couple sets being reused....

MARTIN: What does it mean to turn into a werewolf?

LAUTNER: I think the most important thing with Jacob is that pre-transformation, he’s clumsy. He trips over his own feet. As soon as he transforms, he’s very agile. At one point, he flings himself through Bella’s window and lands at her feet, and that’s the first time Bella realizes this is a new Jacob: He never used to be this agile. I loved bringing out that side of him. The bummer is, when he becomes a wolf, that’s not actually me. When he does the cool fight scenes, he’s transformed into CGI.

MARTIN: You had to bulk up for the part.

LAUTNER: Absolutely. As soon as I finished filming Twilight, I knew I had to get to work right away; there could be no waiting involved. The day I finished Twilight, I came home and started bulking up. For New Moon, I’m 30 pounds heavier than I was in Twilight.

MARTIN: Are you turning more heads?

LAUTNER: I don’t know. I should pay more attention to that. I hope so.

Harry Potter vs Edward Cullen... again...

Poor Hogwarts Kids.... with all the hyper of the new movie coming out, they are still being asked about Twilight and more pointedly, Robert Pattinson, who they worked with when he had a role in the Harry Potter Series as Cedric Diggory.

Daniel Radcliffe compared himself to his former Harry Potter costar, in an interview with MTV:

“Rob Pattinson is a genuine sexy guy. He's got the height. If girls like short and nerdy, then I'm a sex symbol!"

"I've said probably three words to him in the last three years and that was before Twilight all kicked off,” said Daniel.

“But I wish him well. Hopefully, I'll see him at some point.”

Rachelle discusses Robsten with London Free Press

The London Free Press posted an interview with Rachelle Lefevre where she discusses rumours around Rob & Kristen (and their "love child" ha!) as well as director changes and much more.

"They have fantastic chemistry together on-screen and you know that's the kind of thing that becomes the source of rumours," Lefevre says.

"People want them to be together. People would love to hear that -- that they fell in love on the set and so they read that into everything they see.

"But all I've seen are two people who have beautiful chemistry on-screen and are bonded. Kristen, before Twilight, already had a huge resume and had worked with some heavy hitters, but she had also flown under the radar.

"And Rob, he was in Harry Potter (and the Goblet of Fire), so he had some experience with fame, but it was nothing remotely like this. So when two people go through that experience together -- the fandom and everything -- it's going to bond them."

This has been said time and time again and seems to be true. When you are tossed into this new world of crazy-fandom-success.... you tend to bond and share that experience... if there's more to it than that, they'll let us know if they want to... right?

Also regarding the director switch:

Usually when a film succeeds, a studio clings to its creator. But in the case of New Moon, Catherine Hardwicke is out, replaced by Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass).

"It could have been bad," Lefevre admits. "But I think because Harry Potter went through it first to their benefit, we were like, 'The Potter kids went through a director shift and they were OK, so we'll be OK, too.'

"And we were. Chris came in with such a clear idea of what the movie was. And he paid respect to what had come before -- so it was kind of seamless."

A third transition will happen later this year in Vancouver when another director, David Slade (30 Days of Night), takes the reins of the next sequel Eclipse.

"It's perfect timing for David because Eclipse is darker than the other two. There's more action. It's not a horror movie, but it is darker."

I am so excited about David Slade directing, I have said many times before how he is so much "darker" and even known for his gore and rawness... I think it will play out beutifully for Eclipse, just has Chris Weitz and his magical abilities will do wonders for New Moon...

Totally psyched for Tuesday Evening/Wednesday Morning's Harry Potter Midnight Release (well, it sold out, so we are technically attending the 12:05am showing they added on)

Before hand we are doing appies and drinks at Cactus Club Coquitlam about 8pm and there should be a good handful of girlies there to enjoy :)

I remember on twitter the girl who tattoo'd Robert Pattinson's autograph onto her inner wrist and I thought, WOW! But these, these are a whole new level of wow...

I LOVE TATS - I have 7 currently, but I dunno if I'd go as far as some of these people... I like the quotes, but again, sagginess comes with age and... well... just take a peak for yourself :)

Wow, Ade was powerful in this.... Melissa, as always, was beautiful.

Melissa Sandviga and Ade Obayomi danced Waltz to the song “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” —Mary J. Blige choreographed by Ron Montez
I really enjoyed the "raw"ness of this routine.

I think they may be bottom three, however, because they didn't really stand out... at least to me.

Kayla Radomski and Kupono Aweau danced Contemporary to the song “Gravity” —Sara Bareilles choreographed by Mia Michaels
This was absolutely amazing to me. Kayla without make-up, very emotional, the clip before def. showed the closeness Kapono felt to the theme (Addiction) and I think it was amazing and beautifully executed.

Kayla Radomski and Kupono Aweau danced Broadway to the song “The Dance At the Gym” from West Side Story choreographed by Joey Dowling
I really liked it a lot but i preferred their first routine.

Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover danced Foxtrot to the song “Minnie the Moocher” —Big Bad Voodoo Daddy choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
I love Caitlin and Jason and I really liked this routine.

Caitlin Kinney and Jason Glover danced Lyrical jazz to the song “Show Me Heaven” —Maria McKee choreographed by Mandy Moore
This was so beautiful and graceful and wonderful.... Still, I think they may be tossed into the Bottom 3 again :(

Jeanine Mason and Phillip Chbeeb danced Russian folk dance to the song “Kalinka” —Barynya choreographed by Youri Nelzine and Lilia Babenko
I agree with "Dizzy feet" it wasn't great... I felt it very.... commercially Russian... if that makes sense...

Jeanine Mason and Phillip Chbeeb danced Jive to the song “Stuff Like That There” —Bette Midler choreographed by Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
I thought they did wonderfully in this but I fear it may not be enough to keep them out of the tbottom three, despite Phillip's huge following

Randi Evans and Evan Kasprzak danced Hip-hop to the song “Halo” —Beyoncé Knowles choreographed by Tabitha D’umo and Napoleon D’umo
Um - hello? WONDERFUL! I was so very impressed with the way they did this, I agree that NappyTabs chereographed to their strengths, allowing them to be themselves within the hip hop and it worked... well!

Randi Evans and Evan Kasprzak danced Samba to the song “Ritmo De Bum Bom”—Jababa choreographyed by Anya Garnis and Pasha Kovalev
This was a good routine but they weren't passionate enough, they are so cute together, I am sad to see the couple split next week.

Janette Manrara and Brandon Bryant danced Argentine Tango to the song “Libertango” from Forever Tango choreographed by Miriam Larici and Leonardo Barrionuevo
This was amazing. I am not an expert so I wasn't sure if they were nailing those leg moves or not... but the judges say they did and they are the experts...

Janette Manrara and Brandon Bryant danced Jazz to the song “Ruby Blue” —Róisín Murphy choreographed by Wade Robson

A-friggin'-MAZING.... Wade Robson is freaking awesome, these two dancers are freaking awesome, if they were in bottom three i'd wonder what American was smoking ...

Not that I WANT that I just predict that...

And without seeing their solo's I would say Jason and Caitlin go home... *shrugs* I really don't know.... I worry Evan and Randi may be bottom 3 and that would throw things around.... also Phillip may have come as far as he can, he always rocks the solos and he is growing with all these new styles and his fan base is high... as is Kayla's.... despite being thrown in bottom 3... argh! I don't know this week... I really don't!

Harry Potter / Twilight Connections

Of course we all know that Robert Pattinson played Cedric Diggory in 2005's Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire (4th movie)

Now Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast in the last Harry Potter film (Deathly Hallows part I and part II, both being filmed now) as Gellert Grindelwald.

I have to say I love the HP/Twi connections....

FYI - November 2010 and July 2011 are the release dates for the final two films, though both are being filmed currently.

There are connections between the two and also a lot of debate... "pick one, which is better"

I have to say that both movies/books are great.... but the connections are interesting...

Some connections others have noticed:

The buzz words tag on Twilight specifically and the Bella Swan novels in general as “the new Harry Potter” is justifiable beyond the popularity it enjoys with young readers; it’s in many ways the same story.

Like Harry Potter, Twilight’s themes resonate with postmodern core beliefs while illuminating a few of its blind-spots. Certainly we have the celebration of the misunderstood “other,” the tribe(s) alienated by the predominant metanarrative, as the secret keepers holding the answers longed for by those despising them as evil and inhuman. And there’s quite the conflation of sexuality and spirituality, a real signature of our times...

...both Harry Potter and Twilight are “cross-genre bildungsroman novels laden with postmodern themes and religious meaning.”

Who would win in a fight? Harry or Edward?

I saw, who cares.... the more important question is who would you bang ;) *ahem* yea...ha

When it comes to sizzling hot (or marble pale smooth cold....) It's clear that Edward would be the man to bring home... forever.... however, I love both stories very much and find that both series have gotten kids (and moms) reading again.... both contain great magical, mystery and I'd never "choose" one over the other. The fact that the Twilight Series is being filmed locally makes me a tad biased and more involved in the whole thing... but if HP was filmed here I'd be equally thrilled!!!

And the cast from Harry Potter supports Robert:

According to the Digital Spy, both Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) who were once castmates of Robert Pattinson in the Goblet of Fire movie voiced their support of Rob’s career.

Daniel Radcliffe stated, “I won’t pretend we’re best mates or knew each other really well but we really enjoyed working with each other, or at least I enjoyed working with him! He’s doing brilliantly, which is fantastic.”

Tom Felton said, “It’s just great to see someone who has been in Harry Potter have a life after it, and a much bigger one! So I wish him all the success and I will see Twilight soon, I promise!”

Can I just add - for the record... um - wow! (Used to be a HUGE Draco/Tom fan... still some photos make me go yum... don't judge me!!! *hides*)

NY POST feels Mary Murphy, SYTYCD Judge had to dial itback a bit....

GOOD news, everyone. We've figured out why your eardrums have been bleeding this summer.

The blame falls squarely with resident ballroom spaz Mary Murphy, a permanent judge on "So You Think You Can Dance"

.....

Whether she's on a prolonged screaming spree after a dance she particularly enjoyed or she's throwing contestants on her tired "Hot Tamale Train" (with seats reserved for especially spicy dancers), Murphy's loopy, skyrocketing-decibel schtick is officially beyond painful after five seasons

............

Murphy certainly has the knowledge and the experience to be a sharp judge on the show, particularly of the ballroom-style dances, which are her forte.

But for every thoughtful comment about the flow and quality of a dancer’s movement, Murphy gives us one like: “Achoo! I’m allergic to down feathers, what can I say. But I wasn’t allergic to that routine!”

If this were Murphy’s only flaw, we could chalk it up to “hearty enthusiasm” and call it a day. Alas, it is not so.

She also has a nasty penchant for reaffirming her own statements, as in, “What you are selling there, I am buying, yes I am!”

And when she isn’t struggling to move her Botox-tempered eyebrows, she may very well turn on the waterworks and sob over a dance that touched her.

During auditions, she bawled over contemporary dancer Brandon Bryant’s performance, saying, “If you don’t make it to the Top 20, I think I’ll just die this year.” (Sniff, sob.)

Bryant made it. Our ears are not so lucky.

It’s too bad that her cringe-worthy antics cause many to hit the mute button whenever it’s her turn to critique a dance.

My husband says I am obsessed with vampires.... I reply "I'm not... I just really liked Twilight...." and he says "and now True Blood?" well... yess.... "but it's more adult than Twilight" good... and then he says "and what about Buffy?" ok, he's got me.... the allure is there.... "i was a kid then dear!" nice try Mandy, totally busted....

I never *thought* i had a vampire obsession.... but it seems I do.... From Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel the tortured soul... well... souless.... I was hooke don the magic, darkness, mystery of the vampire life... so much I really imagined how it would "BE" if vampires truly exsisted...

then came Twilight, and if you're reading this, well, you all know how that went ;)

recently True Blood got me hooked, and as often happens, once I am hooked I force everyone else to try it and they become hooked too!!!

It's become an obsession, or maybe more of an escape.... I mean, there aren't any "REAL" vampires are there?

I dated a vampire... omg I can't believe I am going to share this.. imagine he reads this...

I was 15 or 16... he joined a rec centre teen committee I chaired and his name was JR... as in "Jay-Are" not "junior"

he had blonde hair which he slicked back and always wore all black.... people joked he was a vampire... he had the fangs... but people have fangs.... he confessed that he was allergic to the sunlight (this was true, he couldn't be out in the sun for long with out breaking out in hives) and also to garlic... LOL.. i never tested this - we only dated a month or so....

he wrote me poetry, worshipped the ground I walked on and was seemingly a perfect man, besides the fact that he creeped everyone out...

if vampires exsisted, i would have believed he was a vampire except for one thing...

we sang a duet one night, the Grease Soundtrack.... I don't think vampires like Grease... but I could be wrong...

Anyways, that was my "vampire" experience.... I am going to go hide in my closet while you all laugh....

Breaking Dawn to be filmed sooner than we think?

Not that this is the most reliable source, but.... E!Oneline says:

After Robert Pattinson confirmed he was signed on for the fourth Twilight installment, Breaking Dawn, back in Cannes, we've all been dying for more juicy deets on the hypersexualized film. (More on exactly how much naughtier the flick will be, next week.)

Yes, we know we're getting overeager since the script for the third flick, Eclipse, which starts shooting Aug. 17, hasn't even been finished yet.

"I haven't seen a page," exclaimed Ashley Greene, who's heading back up to Vancouver to shoot the third Twi flick this summer.

Even though we're getting a tad ahead of ourselves, we tried to pry any dirt out of Ashley and Billy Burke last weekend on what's in store for the final movie.

All I know is that, as of now, I only signed on to do three," B.B. told us. Coyly played Billy. Maybe he's just trying to keep all Twi dirt on the down-low, or it could be that the secondary castmembers haven't started negotiations. Rob and Kristen Stewart are locked in (after so much drama you have no idea—but you're not interested in that, right?), so that's all that matters.

But Breaking Dawn isn't exactly as far away as you all would think.

"We're going to start right after Eclipse," says Ash.

That doesn't come as surprise to us, as we exclusively told you how Summit would be pumping out this franchise as fast as possible to avoid any "bumps" in the road.

So will we see any repeat directors for the fourth film?

"I don't think so," says Ms. Greene. "[Eclipse director] David [Slade] and [New Moon director] Chris [Weitz] will both be busy in postproduction, and Catherine [Hardwicke] will be doing Hamlet."

Well, like we said in last week's Truth, Lies, & Ted, there's no friggin' way Catherine would be back even if it was possible! Despite all the success and money C.H. brought Summit, insiders insist she's so crazy she wouldn't get the gig if Robsten themselves demanded it.

And as much as everyone adored Chris, that's not going to happen because of "scheduling conflicts," we're told.

So there ya have it. Who do you all think should do the fourth one?
